By actively seeking out and appropriating variable spatial sites as potential painting supports, Coulter destabilises conventional hierarchies between surface and structure. Spatial Deconstruction #5 (the hole) was realised over an intensive weekend engagement with the site, responding directly to the cube-like architecture and its rectilinear apertures. The work operates as both an intervention and a critique—exposing the instability of painting as a fixed or autonomous medium within architectural space.
