SPATIAL DECONSTRUCTION #9, 2014

spatial deconstruction #9 (marvel intervention), 2014

Curated Vikki McInnes

A finalist in the VCA Hotel Windsor Prize, Coulter created this unique intervention on the glass of the passenger doors to the main lift lobby, creating a threshold to be traversed through. By situating the work within this transitional zone, she transforms an overlooked architectural threshold into an active space of encounter. The work’s tension between ornamental decoration, and reductive restraint, operates as a dialogue between materiality, perception, history and architecture, amplifying the viewer’s awareness of spatial and aesthetic boundaries through the subtle forms of abstract colour sequences.
